Title Design Research: Science Fiction


 How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones?  

At the beginning of the opening sequence, it displays the companies that produced the movie. It shows Warner Bros productions first. Next it displays village road show pictures. After the production companies are shown, it then displays the name of the movie and rolls into the film. 
What connotations do the images carry? (How do they make you feel) 
The images make you feel curious and give off a very futuristic vibe and feeling. They are dark and have many numbers moving very rapidly as if a computer script is running giving that futuristic feel. 
How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? 
The title sequence uses common connotations associated with sci-fi movies. These include coding and rapid moving computer script that looks futuristic and advanced. It also uses words like program is running to further the futuristic computer script feeling.  
What conventions are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? 
Throughout the opening sequence, futuristic scenes are shown to display the sci-fi connotation the film has. This allows the target audience, sci-fi fans, to immediately be drawn to this sequence.
