Title Design Research: Science Fiction

1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones?

4 Titles are displayed of the movie producers to open up the film and the actual title of the film. These titles were Columbia Pictures, Sony, and P+M Image Nation. The movie opens by introducing all of the producing companies that were involved with the creation of this film
2. What connotations do the images carry? (how do you they make you feel)
The images give me a high-tech feel. This is because words are shown flying through space. The font of the words also gives scientific feel. The music in the background fits well with the feel of the pictures as well
3. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? (Can you tell what genre the film is)
I can tell what the genre is the way the movie is opened. It starts out with the camera flying into a galaxy and shows the words around a ton of meteors surrounding the words. I think this gives you a very good hint of what the genre could be. Also, the music in the background reminds me of a alien abduction.
4.  What conventions are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
A convention that is used in the film is that they show the producers of the movie in space. Most sci fi movies are based in space or are highly involved with space life. Another convention used in that after the credits of the producing companies are shown, it then flies into the scene on Earth meaning there could be something out in space involving the plot of the movie. Someone who likes sci fi would be drawn straight in to something involving space life.
