Production Blog: Peer Review

Image
After yesterday, my short film was all finished. I thought it was good and I was very satisfied. However, I needed to make sure it was as good as I thought. I started thinking how I could make sure it was good. I came up with the idea to ask a peer for review. I knew this peer had to be unbiased and truthful. So I asked an acquaintance who would have no reason to lie. I asked the peer and they ended up saying yes. I sent them over the film and asked them what they thought. It took them a couple days but they ended up responding. The information they responded with ended up being very valuable. They sent over some criticism and things they liked about the film. I looked through the message and carefully examined what they criticized. Luckily, all the criticism ended up being things I could fix through editing and I didn’t have to re-shoot. They had a lot of positive things to say about the film as well. This means the film was as good as I thought. I decided to fix all negative things

Production Blog: Editing Again

Image
Yesterday, I didn’t complete editing my entire short film. So today, I resumed editing. I got on my computer and started up my editing software. The editing software I use is on CapCut. I went over all the editing I did yesterday. This way I could see where I left off and what needed to be done. I made a mental list of what needed to be done at the end of the day. Today was pretty much the last day of editing so I had to make sure everything was done. After all of that I began editing. I pretty much just did what I did yesterday but on different clips. I started with adjusting the clips to the correct length. This made sure there was no background noise or talking. This also made sure there was no awkward silences. I then added music. This really brought the short film together. After that, I added some text to the clips. I watched it all together to make sure it was correct. After that, I put on some finishing touches. This all took only about an hour. Overall today was another succe

Today, I began editing my short film. I had plans for yesterday to edit but those plans were canceled. This means I had a larger work load today. I had more to edit today since I didn't edit yesterday. This wasn't a problem though because I was excited to finish editing. I was so excited to finish because I wanted to see what the final product of the short film looked like. I didn't have much to do and I was sure I would be able to fit it into two days. Today, I edited around half of the short film. I did all of Act I and about half of Act II. I began by putting the clips in order from beginning to end. I did this by dragging the one that came directly after a clip exactly to the right of that clip. I watched it through to make sure it was in the correct order. Next, I trimmed the clips to my liking. I made sure there wasn't any excess footage where someone was talking or there was background noise. Also, I had to make sure there was no awkward silences. I did the trimm

Production Blog: Cancelled Plans

Image
Today, our plans for production got canceled. We already had plans for multiple days to undergo production of our movie. Today was one of those day me and my group was supposed to under go production.  But, something ended up going wrong. This caused our plans for production to be canceled. Today I planned to begin editing my short film. I planned to edit on a free software called CapCut. I chose this software because it is super easy and simple to use. This was really important when choosing a software because I am not too familiar with this skill and wanted it to be easy for me. I also have used CapCut before in previous projects so I was familiar with how to use it. The main reason I chose this software is because it is free of cost to use. This is important because I am in high school and I would rather send my little money on other things. However, this doesn't matter for today because my planes ended up being canceled. They ended up being canceled for reasons that I wasn'

Production Blog: Last Day of Filming

Image
Today, we had our last day of filming. We hadn't planned to film today but we had to because of some unpredicted circumstances.  We planned to film on the Saturday before but because of the weather we couldn't. It rained on Saturday at the time of filming so we had to re-schedule to today. Today, we filmed the third and final act. So far everything had gone smooth so we hoped that's how today went as well. At about 2 P.M. we went to our third filming location in the past 4 days as schedule. Once we got there, we immediately started setting up just like the past two filming days. We did this by setting up the setting/area and putting up props as well as putting actors/extras in place. Once we got that done, we tested some camera angles to make sure it looked good. This had become pretty much a routine by the third filming day so it didn't take long. After that, we began filming. Today was the hardest filming day by far. This is because the scenes involved vehicles and ru

Today, we did some filming for our short film. We already had this scheduled so we knew what we were going to do. Since we already finished filming the first act, we just needed to film the second and third act. Since we couldn't film yesterday we had a lot to film today. We started by arriving to the first filming location at the set time. We had two locations left to film at so we tried to hurry up at the first one. We started by setting up the setting by placing props and arranging things around. We also had some extras to make the setting look more realistic. We placed them where we wanted them and told them what to do.  We then tested out camera angles to see what would look good. Then, we finally started filming. We were messing up a lot less compared to the first time because. This is because we now had some experience on what it would be like in front of the camera. This day was a lot of fun and it didn't take us very long because of how easy it was flowing. This made t

Production Blog: Rain Check

Today, we were planning on shooting at two different settings. We already had the shots planned in our head and we wanted them to look a certain way. A  couple of things could easily effect how the shot looked since one of the shots was outside. This made it sort of a gamble on whether we could film or not.  One thing that would effect the way the shots looked was the weather.  We wanted the weather to be sort of cloudy or sunny. Prior to today, we planned out the time we would be filming our short film and we were really hopping the weather would be good during those times. We saw that it might be rainy but we had hope that it would just be cloudy. Well, it ended up raining. This means we could not shoot just because we didn't want the shots to look like that. Even though it was a step back, it was okay. All we had to do was just reschedule to another day. This time we made sure to properly prepare by checking the weather for the following days. We couldn't film the next day b

Today I finally started the filming of my shot film. I knew I was an actor in the film so I had to do a little preparation before arriving. I did this by rehearsing and remembering my lines. Before I started filming , I was sort of nervous to be in front of the camera. This was because it was my first time in a really long time being in front of the camera. Today we just filmed Act I in one setting. We did this so we could really focus in on one scene and not get tired of doing the whole thing in one day. It took use a little bit to get started because we had to prepare the setting of the film. We did this by placing certain things in certain places and turning on certain lights. We also had to test different camera angles to see which ones looked good. This all took us about 30 minutes. After we did all this, we finally began filming. We started and we thought everything was going smoothly after a few takes. This was until we watched the videos back and realized we looked sort of sil

Production Blog: Scheduling

Production and filming of our short movie was just around the corner. But, not today. Today we needed to prepare even more for our short film. We needed to prepare by figuring out when we were going to start filming our short film.  I already knew what day my group needed to film, we just needed to pick a time.  At first, I thought it was going to be easy picking a time. But, I thought wrong. Picking times was a very complicated thing to do. Each group member had a different schedule and we had to work around each one. At first, I proposed the time 3 o'clock on the filming day. But, of course, one of my group members was busy at this time. So, I then proposed the time 5 o'clock. But, once again, someone was busy at this time. It seemed that every time I proposed someone was busy. If one group member wasn't busy, another was. It took us about an hour to figure out a time that worked for everyone and gave us enough time to film. Eventually, we got it all figured out and came

Today, I did even more preparing for my short film. Today I decided to go shopping for props. Last time I went shopping, I only went for costumes and didn't get props. I decided to use the same strategy for shopping for the props as I did with the costumes. The strategy is that I make a list of what I need prior to going shopping. I went act by act in the storyboard for my short film to decide what props I needed. I started with the first act. The first act consisted of scenes in a house with just normal household items so I didn't have to buy much. The only thing I made sure to put on the list was celery because that was in one of the shots. I decided not to buy this today as I wanted it to be fresh on the filming date. I then examined the second act. In the second act, the characters were planning a heist and were writing stuff down. I put down a notebook and a pen on the list for the second act. Finally, I examined the third act. In the third act the characters were robbing

Today, I decide to prepare for our short film. I did this by going shopping for the characters costumes. I decided to make a list of what I need so I didn't have to think on the spot. I went scene by scene and thought of what costume the characters should be wearing. I started with the first act where the characters are sitting in the room hanging out. I thought that I didn't need to buy any costumes because the characters should be in casual wear which my group already owns. Next I looked in the second act. Again, I thought that the characters should just be wearing casual clothes. On the other hand, I thought that in the third act the characters definitely needed costumes. This is because in this act they are robbing a bank. I thought of what the characters should be wearing and what bank robbers in movies typically wear. To follow the script, I came up with a list of a couple items. The list had three pairs of sunglasses, a top hat, three medical masks and a trench coat. For
